A dreary drive today through overcast and drizzly conditions from Yorkshire to Warwickshire.
I drove through Groathland this morning, which is 'Heartbeat's' Aidensfield. I easily spotted the pub and the garage from the show and the seat and monument in the park that feature in the opening credits! It was drizzling and people were flocking in taking photos, I suppose it is Sunday. I stayed in the car.
Yesterday I was in Whitby, a picturesque fishing centre and tourist attraction. Captain Cook began his working life here but he wasn't a captain then.
On Friday I wandered about Bamburgh Castle (at Bamburgh) a splendid juxtaposition of construction from various ages in history. The keep is medieval but much of the rest of the present construction was more recent and was the home of generations of Lord Armstrongs, wealthy industrialists in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Off to London tomorrow to drop off the car, and prepare to shoot off to France on the Eurostar on Tuesday.
