Sunday here in Falmouth was hot and full of walking (for me anyway). As I lurched out of my guest house this morning I was confronted by ten thousand Cornish women all in pink and running/strolling/waddling in aid of breast cancer. Moving against the flow of the huge pink mass I eventually made it to Pendennis Castle for my history lesson for today.
It was built by Henry number 8 (not personally) to protect the right bank of the Falmouth harbor from unruly rivals from across the channel. St Mawes castle is on the other side of the harbor. Pendennis has been used over the centuries and was not abandoned by the military till the 1950s. It was laid seige to by Oliver Cromwell back in the day.
Lunch was a Cornish pasty, apparently a genuine one. It had chunks of meat in it! This was washed down by one of the local ales. There are a lot of little pubs here and today most of them were well patronized.
Lots of Cornish folk were out and about with their families and dogs and enjoying the sunshine.
Cornwall will have me for a couple more days yet. Next stop Padstow.

Bob & Ellen Keep on enjoying your history lessons. Was that the castle Henry 8 kept his harem? We wish we had visited Cornwall ourselves. Love those B&Bs.
