Hello again from Beijing. Today we headed for the Zoo, we called at a bakery and got breakfast and then caught the underground to the nearest station to the zoo - cost just 2 Yuan... Made it to the zoo and bought our tickets, just 15Y. We were very excited about seeing the Panda's, there were quite a few and the really are very very cute! Just sat happily eating bamboo and being comical, we watched them for a long time. Then there isnt really anything of note to report about the rest of the zoo apart from the lack of room and facilities for the animals. It was really quite sad, a lot of the cages are really small and it was upsetting to see some of the tigers/cougars/ elephants and monkeys in such a state, but some of it wasnt so bad. There was a chimp all dressed up having its photo taken with people though - not nice and then a tiger in a very small cage within its cage crying nearly broke our hearts. But seeing the panda's in thier shiny big enclosure as a highlight and bought a little panda toy. Caught the underground back and went in search of food. Went to a nice restaurant and had stirfried beef and green, but it was very hot (chilli) - seems to be a danger here! But very tasty. And a weird dish, pumpkin cubes fried in pork fat with peppers, but tasty! Together with rice and orange juice. Lovely, and with full bellys giving us inner warmth we battled through the cold back to the hotel to thaw out! Its very cold, about minus 4 we think, but keeping wrapped up in layers seems to be the key! Thats all for now! X
