Great day in Siena. Had a bit of a mad drive in with the craziness of the day before Palio. Cars everywhere. We had hoped to see the horses (the 'neigh neighs' as Lana refers to them) but unfortunately no show. We realized why later on! Cruised around the duomo, the interior was packed with decorative frescos / biblical scenes which jaz loved. I've taken to reading to the girls about the history of the village/towns in the car prior to arriving and jaz is forever saying 'keep reading mum'! Lunch in a cafe on the piazza del campo square hoping for the horses to arrive but instead a massive storm hit. At first we were enjoying it, taking cover under the big cafe umbrellas, until hail started pouring down. Gabi shrieked and laughed with glee! Frankie was freaking and crying in bettsy's arms, Lana at first laughed then realized it wasn't stopping and jumped into my arms. Jaz was trying to be brave but soon insisted we go inside when we saw other umbrellas being upturned and everyone else running for proper shelter. Quite an experience. Nothing like an italian cafe with good coffee and ice-creams and a little spanish boy for Lana to cuddle and chase. Home for our home cooked roast chook dinner... So good after the usual pasta / pizza.
Also home to baby rabbit who is definitely dying... Oh dear...
