2/22/11 - This entry will serve as the last entry for the Cruise/Miami vacation, as this was sadly our last day in Florida. We woke up and immediately packed into the car to head off to the Everglades. While we were at lunch the day before, Michelle snagged a couple coupons for some touristy things to do in the Miami area and one of them was an Airboat Tour through Florida's most well-known state park. We arrived at the Sawgrass Recreation Center about an hour north of Miami and signed up for a 30-minute tour. It was my first time on an airboat and thank goodness we were given earplugs before we boarded because those motors are extremely loud and obnoxious. I was surprised that we actually saw four alligators during our 30-minute tour, thus making it a worth-while investment. The jury is still out as to whether or not the park feeds the alligators in order to attract them close. We arrived in the middle of the marsh and most of the gators came swiftly at us as if we were its prey. Pretty cool creatures and cool experience though nonetheless. Following the tour, we ventured towards the mini zoo which featured more alligators, birds, reptiles, panthers and peacocks.
We drove back towards Miami and decided to have a proper Mexican lunch in Little Havana. We would have preferred Cuban just because we were in the area for it but this little Mexican restaurant was absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant was called Mi Rinconcito and it offered some of the best gorditas and quesadilla chillanda I've ever had. We then cruised back to the hotel to get ready for our last night in Miami. The intentions were to venture out to Brickell Square for some drinks, dinner and possibly dancing but by the time we got back, we were so drained from the week's festivities that room service and four hours of Game Show Network were in store. What a bunch of nerds we were.
The following day was quite depressing as we made our way back north to the Orlando Airport. It gets tougher and tougher to say goodbye as we both wheeled our luggage to our respective gates. Michelle had a much longer time to wait since her flight was later in the day. I had entered the security check-in and the line people was astronomical. I guess what had happened was because of the weather, they were opening more and more flights and were fairly short staffed and that did not help my chances of making my flight on time. Luckily, more staff arrived and I was able to make my flight. Although, the thought of not making it on time and being able to spend more time in Florida was appealing.
What an incredible time but it's back to reality and time to go back to work.
