Having spent 4 hours on a bumpy winding bus we eventually arrived in Vang Vieng in northern Laos, the place is very beautiful set in a valley of huge limestone crags and is famous for the tubing down the river in a tractor tyre inner tube.
We spent our first night getting to know the place and then spent a day tubing. The river is dotted with bars along the way, each offering free whiskey, drinks by the bucket and a zip wire or swing back into the river.
Although the majority of people just got drunk on the river and didn't do the tubing, we decided to pace ourselves and made it the 4k back to the town in the tyres even though it took 3 hours and we had to swim some parts. Must be a sign of us being sensible and getting old!
