An overnight train from Saigon to Nha Trang was the next stage of our trip up Vietnam.
We boarded and found our way to our birth. Each birth consisted of 4 beds and I was pleasantly surprised to learn I fitted into a bed. Unfortunately the 'nice' man at our hotel in Saigon had booked me and Belle into seperate births. Although this was a bit annoying it wasn't an issue and we both settled down for the night.
We arrived in Nha Trang early the next morning and after heading to our hotel we headed out for a stroll. If parts of Sihanoukville resembled a deserted island then Nha Trang was more like a American, west coast beach resort. A long strip of white sand, complete with palm trees and well kept parks just off the beach. Not than either of us have been to the US let alone the west coast, but this was what we pictured it to be like - we can confirm this a later date!!
Our day was rounded off by heading out to dinner, followed by a couple drinks.
My free gift from the Saigon water park (conjunctivitis) had well and truly set in. My eyes were stickier than the forest of Dean and wetter than a otters pocket. However with the use of some eye drops they were (pretty much) usable.
With the combination of hot sun and a cool coastal breeze there was only one option, we therefore made our way to the beach. Whilst we were adding to our tans (our trying to get one in some cases) it was a welcome bonus not to be picked on by children, trying to sell random goods. I would like to think this was down to our new sun kissed skin tone, however the reality is these children did not patrol the beach like in Cambodia. After a good sunning we headed back to the hotel and our second evening followed in the footsteps of our first.
We both really liked Nha Trang, a perfect place to chill out and relax for a few days, with a lot more to see and do (than we managed to) than the beach. However our time there was cut short by over planning on our part. We worked out we were running slightly behind schedule (somehow!?) and booked a bus to our next stop (Hoi An) on our second evening.
We later found this was not the case, and we had miscalculated dates. We left Nha Trang the next day, both slightly disappointed with our mathematical and planning skills. This is somewhere we would both love to go back to!
