So we prematurely left the beautiful Nah Trang as somehow we worked out that we were short on time. We took another sleeper bus up to Hoi An - the home of cheap and beautiful clothes!!
As usual the second you step off the bus (having just woken up) there are taxi and moto drivers a plenty just waiting to take you where ever they get commission. We however were in for a very nice surprise when our hotel was literally over the road. Barely even worth hoisting my backpack back up!! So we checked in, had a sleepy then went exploring.
Had a spot of lunch, a look at some of the clothes you can get tailor made and found the 'Old Town'. Stupidly we paid to go in where you can actually just wander around for free as long as you don't go to any of the museums, old houses etc but they obviously don't tell you this. Oh well!! We had a good wander round and did some class act bartering for a playsuit. They started at $25 after telling them I could get it made elsewhere for $14 and leaving the shop, the lady hopped on her bicycle and followed us, saying I could have it for $14... Result!! I got measured up and told to go back the next day.
We bumped into an Australian called Sam that we had met in Ho Chi Minh and then again in Nah Trang. So we had a few drinks and the boys enjoyed finding a bar that played what ever football match was on, yippee!! Thousands of miles away and I still can't get away from it.
The next day we decided to hire push bikes and cycle the 5km to the nearest beach, $1 for all day!! I got the most un bum friendly seat and was quite a bit of pain for the next few days but it was worth it. One of the reasons is because the roads were much quieter than in other places we had been to in Vietnam, and you don't really need to do much as everyone else goes around you. And it was a beautiful sunny day with lovely views. Got to the beach, had a walk up and down, had some lunch and headed back to pick up my playsuit (another 5km of sore bottom).
My tailor made playsuit fitted perfectly and with this we went for another little explore around the 'Old Town'. Met up with Sam again and went to find some good food that would do the trick of filling us up. We found a nice Italian and ordered loads of food, suitably stuffed we headed for a bar that Sam was meeting some other travellers he had met. Only had a couple of drinks as another long journey ahead of us tomorrow.
I will most definitely be returning to Hoi An with lots of money and an empty suitcase. It was so hard to only get one garment made but my backpack is already too heavy.
