So... We spent what felt like a lifetime on planes and in airports but we eventually got to Bangkok airport. Which was very nice until we stepped outside and got hit by 30oC heat. We found the taxi rank and after pointing to where we wanted to be on a little note Belle made we got taken to a car. He was helpful, taking our back packs off our backs and putting them into the boot but when we tried to put the seatbelts on we quickly learnt the hand signal for no. The belts didn't work, apparently if we just sat with our heads firmly against the head rest it would do the same job as a seat belt!! By this point he had his seatbelt firmly on and was doing 60 mph on a 7 lane motorway... I say motorway, there was 7 lanes mapped out but it was more of a free for all than Dale Winton's Supermarket Sweep!! After going through a couple of toll bridges and asking for money (Matt thought he was trying to point out the new Metro tube like system they have from the airport) we pulled up at the end of the road we requested. With no where to pull over he just stopped!! We had to get out in the middle of a busy road and fight once again with the back packs. What we hadn't researched was that we were arriving on the first night of the water festival. Us along with all our worldly possessions got ambushed by thousands of fully grown adults reliving their youth with Super Soakers and the occasional full bucket of water. After walking about a mile passed our guest house we found a very helpful local that walked us right to the door. Did he expect a couple of baht for helping us... I expect so but in our drenched state he got a warm thank you and good night. We are now sat enjoying a couple of bottles of Chang after finding a much appreciated '7 Eleven'. Although this may sound like it has come straight from 'Holidays from Hell' we feel we have had quite a smooth first experience :-) The weather is hot, the room is decent and the beer tastes good!!
