Hola!
I spent today exploring the ´new town´ of Quito, in the opposite direction of where I went to yesterday. Its a completly different atmosphere, the main road in has both a McDonalds and a KFC, but then when you delve deeper, it becomes alot more tourist orientated, with english cafe´s and bars.
I had another fruity breakfast, freshly squeezed melon juice and a pastry thing, which was a bit like a prestzel made from puff oastry with icing sugar on top. I feel like i walked miles today, i stumbled across a sports arena and a thatre (I think) .
I then had possibly the BEST burger of my life, it was from ´billy´s burgers¨(a very rough translation) and was HUGE and square. I ordered it all in spanish, and even managed to say ´no pickles´. having listened (oddly enough) to chris brown playing in the cafe, i wandered around, stopping in a park to read my planet earth book!
The highlight of my day was, when in the boiling heat, i decided to treat myself to a fruit juice, I say treat, but they only cost 75C, I ordered an ornage juice in spanish in this tiny little pretty cafe, bright yellow walls and blue decorations, and after ordering, an elderly man sitting at one of the tables asked if I spoke english (im guessing my spanish pronounciation isnt that good)
He offered for me to join him at his table, and i had a wonderful conversation with him, scattered between spanish and English. He pronounced his name ´on-ree´ and told me about how he was a professer at one of ecuador´s universities. I told him about how I was looking forward to going into the Amazon basin in a few days, he was full of little philosophical sayings, I wish i could have written them down. He told me things along the lines of ´the futher you travel, the further your imagination can wander´ or something along those lines, but it was lovely sitting with him in the shade, drinking the best orange juice I have ever tasted!
Today was again, gloriously sunny, but just about 5 minutes ago, I got my taste of a true tropical rainstorm, it was so so noisy, like when you´re in a conservatory in heavy rain. Its just about lightened up again, so Im going to get some pollo for my dinner, yum yum.
tomorrow I check in to the hotel for the group on the amazon trip, im not sure yet whether the hotel has internet, but from tomorrow, the updates are going to begin being very inconsistant Im afraid!
Ill try to update later or tomorrow from the hotel!
lots and lots and lots of love, missing you all!
