Hola again everyone!
The photo above doesnt do justice to the view we had at the river lodge. It meant climbing hundreds of steps, but it was worth it for a view looking over miles of unspoilt rainforest, surrounded by mountains, have a look at the river lodge photo album!
We arrived here and were all speechless at the view, the lodge is perched precariously on asteep cliff, with the river running below, this place was more popular with backpackers, and we spoke to travellors from australia and canada, all making their way around Ecuador. Everyone spent most of the day taking in the view, you cant describe it or take good enough pictures, its a view that will stay with me forever.
We then went down to the river for a swim, a small canoe takes you across to a river-made beach, where the water forms a calmer lagood suitable for swimming. Although the water is murky brown, it was a lovely cool temperature within the humidity of the air, and we explored out little beach and played football, I also disturbed a HUGE ant which promptly bit my foot, but I´ll survive!
Alex, a local guide also taught us how to balence huge rocks in certainly impossible positions. He was an expert at making almost any rock stand on its end, when it seemed completly impossible, I managaed to make one balance with his help, but he claimed all you had to do was focus and relax, which seemed to work for him, i was too busy being bitten by sandflies.
When it turned into dusk and it began to get much too insect ridden, we climbed back up the hundreds of steps to another lovely meal, then played cards by candlelight, a south american game called ´Gutamadre´which Carlos taught us, interrupted by several invasions of moths the size of small birds!
Ill update the next day soon!
Lots and ltos of Love, Beaker XX
