Hola again!
So, at nightime, everyone had small cabins allocated, with incricatly designed beds and doors, me and Alec chose to sleep outside in the hammocks overlooking the forest. I couldnt sleep at all, but for good reasons, we lay awake listening to the forest, it is SO noisy, to the point of disbelief that insects can produce such a volume.
In between the cricket sounds and the bird calls, was also the constant chatter of monkeys. the only way i can descibe their call is a chicka-chicka type of noise, it was really loud and close, so we imitated the call back to them, and began a small relay between us, they would call, then we would, then they would, sounding louder and closer. It was incredible.
The next day was one of the scariest, but also proudest of my life! Unforuntaly, i have NO PHOTOS because it was water based, so ill try to descibe my indiana jones style antics! We went for a river walk, backwards, so upstream, and along the way, encountered several HUGE waterfalls. hidden in the depths of the rainforest, i didnt expect it at all. But there was no way i wasnt going to give it a try.
They seemdçed to get bigger each time, the force of the water pushing you back way huge, and espeically wearing contact kenses i was worried of losing one, we gripped small ledges and hoisted ourselves up and underwater through rivers and cliffs. I say cliffs, and I mean CLIFFS, or at least they were to me!
At one point, the final waterfall, i was terrified, i honestly thought id have to back out, it seemed impossible that someone could climb up it, but everyone was very encouraging. swinging from the first ledge to the next, a blast of water and my contact lense was long gone from my right eye, but i carried on (horraay!) and (humming the indiana jones theme tune in my head) I reached the top. I was so proud and happy, adreniline i guess.I wish I could have taken a picture to prove its size!
On returning back, most people napped in the hammocks in the sun, exausted, and welcomed a stunning meal of soup, popcorn then plantain, rice and pork stew, ive never finished a meal so quickly!
In the evening, Delphine and his family dempnstrated the traditions of their culture, we were shown healing rituals and a wedding. Everything was indescribibly interesting and beautiful. all the relative joined in to welcome and teach us. You can see in the pictures Miles and Amy were chosen to demonstrate as the happy couple, and that we were each given a spirit. These were the symbols painted on our faces, mine was the spirit of the river, rushing round and travelling, but always returning home. apparntly!
Ill update the next few days soon!
Lots of love, Beak xxx
