Well, last week was coolish. We did some farming on tuesday, and of course the dioensa (jeez) and then, on tuesday afternoon, we were commanded by Luis (very scary) to go and get changed and go swimmning with the becarios. So of course we did. They all though it was hilarious to spalsh us continously. I didn´t think I would ever be able to see again. And they all wanted us to teach them how to swim. Which is all very well, but when you have small boys grabbing at your ankles, and somebody clinking two snookerballs together underwater so that it grates your bones, plus the fact that we are no expert swimmers ourseleves. Then you have a challenge on your hands. All we managed to achieve (and even then, it was not perfect) was to get them to learn how to float on their backs. It was VERY hard. Never again. Well, at least not until later this afternoon.
On wednesday, we had gardening time! But htis time round, we had the luxury of choosing not to rake (although we may do this week, our patch is covered in crap and bark and leaves and its doing my head in). Instead, we got to paint the cabaña! Much comedy carrying of a wonky ladder by me, (we had to walk right past the group of 200 kids that were there for a couple of days on holiday) and spending about 10 minutes each time i moved it along half a metre trying to level it out so that I wouldn´t fall to my death (it wasn´t very high really, only one storey). The bits we painted looked well good at the end though. Even if we did only do one and a half sides. Lizzie tripped over the step in front of one of the cleaning señoras and got paint in her hair. I´m sad I missed that moment, but apparently it was rather amusing. Matías, the head maintenance guy, said I painted like Frida Kahlo. Er, I don´t hink so. I am way better than her.
Wednesday afternoon, lizzie did some monster drawing. Many groovy pictures of twisted creatures named ´Lisi´or ´Pequi´ (our names in 7yr old mexican spanish btw). Thursday, we didn´t go to the market for food :( sad day. But the walk home was fun. I had to spend it persuading one of the girls that we had not cast her as the ugly sister in cinderella (we´re doing a play for mother´s day) because she is ugly and fat, but because she is a good actor, and her best mate is the other sister, and that they could practise together, and if she really was ugly and fat, I couldn´t have given her that part because it would have been mean etcetc. I think she just wanted to try and guilt me into makingher cinderella though. Oops. One of the lads however (As we were walking down a tricky steep cobbled street too) said, ´becky´ and put a rubber spider in my hand. Because it was big and black and squisy and warm, I screamed and threw it. ALL the kids wet themselves laughing. Plus Adrian, the guy who looks after the kids in the afternoon, thought I was a right girl. Not my smoothest moment.
Friday (finally!) we were free! Well after a couple of classes in santo domingo which were interrupted so that the kids could all go and practice brushing their teeth with some health nurses, oh, and two of the lads fought and I had to pull them apart whilst one of the girls ran to get the teacher. So! after some tacos y tlacoyos in the market, we got the bus to cuernavaca, hopped off somewhere we vaguely recognised as being near a big bus station, and then did the 5 hour trip to Acapulco!!!!
