I graduated from Complutense with a degree in kickin' it.
That's right, I had a little taste of what's to come a year from now. Only this time, by degree said "este documento no tiene validez académica" (This document does not have academic validity.) However, what was charming about the graduation ceremony we had was that it was so intimate.
The people in my program started the day with a paella lunch at a nice restaurant in the neighborhood where most of us live. We were told by our coordinators after that "we better not be going to the library, rather you should be botelloning in the park." So we did. About 25 of my closest friends from the program headed to Parque del Oeste and enjoyed some more wine.
After quite a long ceremony, we all had sashes (not sure of the term for the blue things we were awarded) and diplomas. The university then held a reception on the porch of edificio A with unlimited vino, cerveza and tapas.
The experience we've all been through here has been challenging but eye opening. We've lost money, shoes, wallets, phones and cameras. But we've won friendships, knowledge, wisdom, laughter and a document with no academic validity.
All in all, graduation day landed a spot in the Top 10 Days of my study abroad experience.
