Cliche alert: People say studying abroad is one of the most life changing things a person can do.
Well, this cliche statement became all too true for me over the past week. (Although, I still like to believe I'm the same, simple, small-town Becky)
I've seen the most beautiful coasts of the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. I've lived in a Spanish home, searched for and rented my own apartment, opened a Spanish bank account and could now navigate public transportation blindfolded.
I've tried enough new foods to feed a village in Africa for a year, tasted more wine than a vineyard owner and will not be able to have a cup of American coffee without wishing it were a Café con Leche.
Going out will not have enough dancing and will end too early. Napping will be non-existent once again. Work will return, play will fade.
After missing my flight to Morocco last weekend, I re-fell in love with Madrid. Leaving the airport, I thought about how everything really does happen for a reason. Flights are missed, stores close, jobs are denied or lost, people lose touch, feelings change.
Yet, time passes and opportunity knocks, doors open, new friends are made and imprints are left on your heart. (mine feels like one of those squishy pillows that people push their fingers into at the mall)
No matter how significant each change is, how far away from home your are, or how hard things may seem, it's important to always remember... You are exactly where you need to be and each day is a new one.
