Rebecca’s Mum (@ Eamon’s Mother-in-law – no escaping me Eamon!) – typing this on Bec’s computer in their lovely apartment in Tullow – looking out the living room window at an assortment of roofs – the closest being their local pub – very convenient for Eamon to pop out for a quick nip of Guinness – but then, with 16 pubs in this very pretty village, a quick nip is available from about every second shop! My 4th day here and I’ve seen so much. It is a very beautiful area, lovely little country roads (on which the locals drive like it’s a race track – no snakes or spiders to bite you here but those drivers!! – and the only person who has been heard of getting picked up for speeding is one of their most senior police officers – go figure?) The weekend was a trip to Dublin where Eamon proceeded with the speed of a racing greyhound to take Bec & his MIL on a comprehensive tour of this lovely old city – buskers on Grafton Street, Trinity College, Temple Bar, the GPO where the 1916 Easter uprising took place, Bewleys theater restaurant for a quick cuppa, Dublin Castle tour (this was the English barracks for a long time and it’s beautifully restored), then dinner with Eamon’s cousin Pat and his partner Barbara and a night in a very old Irish Pub, where I apparently snored my way through a very good night’s sleep – lovely drop of ‘red’ Patrick! Eamon was back to work so Bec & I did a road trip home through County Wicklow, beautiful mountain scenery, old monastries, lakes, beautiful gardens (Powerscourt), Avoca woolen mills to watch beautiful fabric being made on a machine that has been operating since 1750 – a work of art in itself. Home through the pretty town of Shileleigh where Bec is going to be teaching after these term holidays are over and home. That’s it, Kilkenny today and a tour of it’s famous castle so must go. Looking forward to an Easter road trip around the west coast and up to Belfast with Bec & Eamon taking turns to dodge the local Boy Racers and other local lunatics at the wheel. The weather has been beautiful (not raining all the time at all Michael) and I can well understand Eamon’s desire to come back here for a year to show Bec this lovely country.
