G'day Folks!
You will be pleased to hear that the weather has improved since our last entry which has meant we have been able to get out and enjoy Byron Bay! We had a quiet night on Tuesday as we went to the local cinema to see Notes on a Scandal, which was quite a good film. Wednesday was another uneventful day due to the rain, until the evening when things livened up. We joined in the hostel BBQ and met some fellow Brits who we played some drinking games with, however, this resulted in Jen retiring to bed at 10.30! Becki and Sam and the rest of the people headed into Byron Bay for a spot of boogeying at a bar called Cheeky Monkeys. But you can see from the photos they got slightly wet on the way there!
Thursday we got up late and headed to the beach as the sun had decided to make an appearance. The day was spent partly on the beach and partly by the pool - it's a hard life travelling!
Friday we got up at a ridiculous hour to go and watch the sunrise at the lighthouse as it is the most easterly point in Oz so we were the first people to see the sun rise. It was very pretty but the clouds blocked the view a little. We returned back to the hostel at 7am and went straight to bed for a few hours. The day was spent on the beach again and in the evening we went out for an Indian, which was very nice but not a patch on a good old "English" curry! Outside the restaurant there was a really good band playing on the street and we were entertained for awhile watching the crazy locals attempting to dance! We then headed to Cheeky Monkeys so Jen could see what she missed out on Wednesday night. The rest of the night involved drinking Sambuca with ice (apparently the ice served with the shot is meant to discourage binge drinking in Oz - we couldn't quite work that one out!!) and dancing on the tables!!
Today was our final day in Byron Bay and we spent it on the beach. But this time we were a little more adventurous and hired some boogie boards. We spent half an hour trying to catch some waves whilst trying not to drown in the process! We are off to Surfers Paradise tomorrow morning which is another seaside town. We have all loved Byron Bay and it has felt like a proper holiday!
Love to you all,
Jen, Sam and Becki xx xx xx xx xx xx xx
p.s. Don't worry it is not you, the website has changed format for some reason! It does mean you can now view a slideshow of our photos and videos! Expect some more movie footage soon!!
