Hello everyone!
First of all we should let you know that we are now only 10hours (rather than 11hours) ahead of England as we have arrived in Queensland which has a silly time difference from New South Wales. Got to Surfers on Sunday, and were greeted by a load of sky scrapers which is a big difference from Byron Bay. Surfers is very built up and touristy but not neccessarily in a good way. Spent Sunday afternoon exploring and sunbathing by the hostel pool. We stayed in quite nice accommodation as the hostel is attached to a hotel so we got the benefits of all their facilities, we even had the novelty of a TV in our room, needless to say we watched Neighbours everyday!
Monday morning was spent chilling by the pool working on our tans. In the afternoon we ventured down to the beach where Sam "attempted" some surfing, Becki and Jen got very tired just watching. Monday night was our first Aussie barbie that we had cooked all by ourselves, it was very yummy except for the chicken which took ages to cook, in the end we got bored of waiting so ate it any way and then worried that we may have got food poisoning. After dinner we watched Desperate Housewives.
Tuesday was a fun filled active day at Wet n' Wild water park which was about half an hour from Surfers. We took our new found Canadian friend Sara with us as she is travelling alone. We managed to go on every ride within the first 2hours, the craziest ride was the Tornado which shot you down a vertical drop into a cone which swirled you around a bit and then shot you out the end! Needless to say we got very wet, made even worse by the fact that it rained and was really cloudy. Our favourite ride was definately the black hole, particularly towards the end of the day as it had the warmest water of all the rides. We were rather lucky as we managed to wangle two free photos of us on one of the rides which was a bonus. In the evening we cooked curry, had a couple of drinks in the hostel bar and went to bed exhausted.
Wednesday was our last day in Surfers, Sam and Jen morning swim was disrupted by the appearance of a load of scaffolding in the pool as the hotel is apparently hosting some bikini modelling competition. In the afternoon we had to endure lots of girls prancing around in high heels attempting to learn a dance routine on the stage erected in the pool - much to the delight of all the male guests but we just found it all rather amusing. That evening after indulging in a gourmet burger we bought ourselves a box of wine and played a few drinking games with our roomies, so not too dissimilar from last Wednesday in Byron Bay, however there was no dancing on tables this time round! However we did have to go for a midnight wander on the hunt for some crisps for Becki, which we all ended up eating!
We are now in Brisbane having got the bus up this morning when we were all feeling a tad fragile. This afternoon we just wandered round - including a little nap in the park when we all got too tired. Brisbane seems nice from what we have seen so far but we will keep you updated on what we get up to here.
Missing everyone lots, lots of love,
Becki, Jen and Sam xxxxxx
