East on hwy 20 from the coast, and we went through "lake country". Was beautiful but no parks or campgrounds to stop. Odd. Lots of fishing stores & boats around for fishing. Stopped at a little local park for late lunch & playground. Good leg stretch for kids. Got to I5 and decided to push thru to Redding. Weather forecast says 29-30 all week. Woohoo. Not ready for the cold just yet.
Arrived in Redding 7pm at great little campground right off I-5. Mountain Gate RV. Close to everything, great spots, playground, pool, dog runs. What else could you ask for.
Today got up & was thinking about Shasta Caverns but instead we go just a few min away to Turtle Bay Exploration Park. They rehabilitate local wildlife, educational stuff for kids about nature, local logging history, etc. pretty cool spot whole outdoor area for kids: small animals to see like a fox, hawk, badger, owl, etc. Huge cool treehouse type play area, water exhibit where they can divert dams, etc. outdoor pen where you can feed Larakeets. Crazy fun. Museum of local area with lots of info on sacramento river & the salmon fishery. Local fish. Natives. Pretty cool. And right there in the park is the Sundial bridge. It's a pedestrian bridge that's linked to the Sacramento river trail. Looks like a giant sundial with cables suspending the bridge. Kids had a blast just running & walking the bridge. Great photo opps!! I took all the photos on my big camera tho so none to share from my iPhone.
Came back to campsite for second night. Such a pretty spot. People nice. Jesse & daddy napped this aft, livvy & I hung outside and went to playground. Now daddy has kids & dog at the run while I make some dinner. BBQ chicken , sweet potato, Broc, salad. Yum.
Oh, and found a new AMAZING margarita recipe. We're addicted. Will share later in person ;-). We'll make margs and feed them to you as you suffer through hundreds of holiday photos!!!
Tomorrow it's north.... Either up I5 or hwy 97 into oregon. Hwy 97 is so much more cool so maybe we'll do that. Will keep you posted!
