The Pisac Market is unique because practically the whole town is the market. Our guide started our shopping by taking us to a natural dye maker, a silversmith, and a textile vendor. Each person explained how to distinguish between good quality products and inferior quality products. He also introduced us to Oscar who had a shop that sold a variety of Peruvian craft items and to a painter who was mute and communicated with us through gestures. I was surprised that neither our guide nor the vendors pressured us to buy from them. I found a gift for each of the kids and grandkids as well as something for our niece, Yana, who appreciates unique items. Alan bought a watercolor painting of Macchu Pichu from the artist who pointed to his email address on the back of the painting and encouraged Alan to communicate with him on-line.
I have been pleasantly surprised at how polite Peruvian vendors are to tourists. If you make eye contact, they will quietly ask you to look at their wares. If you reply "No, gracias", that's the end of it.
