Our second morning at a lovely hotel, Hacienda del Valle, located at the top of a rutted dirt road. Alan brought coffee to me so that I could sit on our balcony and enjoy the flowers, birdsong, views of the mountains, and sound of the water flowing under the little walking bridge outside our room. Just snapped a pic of a hummingbird!
My impressions of the Sacred Valley include steep mountains with pointed peaks and terraces for farming; crops including potatoes, beans, corn, grains; people wearing regional clothing, including hats, in their day-to-day lives; woven textiles used for many functions such as carrying children on mother's backs, wrapping up a load to carry, covering back and shoulders like a shawl; a respect for Mother Earth and her resources; a calmness in the people; a cooperative and hard working approach to tasks, corn drying on roofs, patios, and yards; agriculture, architecture, and astronomy; red plastic wrapped around a pole outside bars to indicate that they sell chicha, beer made from corn; tiled roofs; two bulls on the peak of the roof to bless the house with prosperity, good health and fertility.
