Arrived in Darwin 3 days ago (Tuesday). They call it 'The Top End', Australians are very good at saying it how it is. We are now officially in the tropics and the heat now has humidity which makes it a lot more uncomfortable. Lots of flies AND mosquitos... I have over 30 bites at the moment which is very annoying as everyone else seems to have only one or two!!! Being in Darwin means we are now at the end our the 21 day tour and have completed the Stuarts Highway. Can't believe we have bused it up the centre of Australia from South to North on one road. Glad to have done it but wont want to do it again. On the way to Darwin we did the Devils Marbles which is a really cool place to play clambering on rocks and taking arty photos. In Darwin we did the last leg of the two which was 3 days in Kakadu National Park and Litchfield. We have camped out the last two nights in netted tents. The first night it rained hard which gave a good break from the clamminess but last night we had no rain so a very hot night. There were lots of dogs barking from 2am and all around the toilet blocks were plagues of cane toads (very poisonous pests which are crippling the wildlife in these parts and terrifying the life out of me). We have had a 4x4 truck to do this last leg in as a lot of it has been off road, nothing like Africa though, relatively comfortable. The parks are very woody with lots of birds, termite mounds and waterfalls. We have basically been visiting many waterfalls and swimming in the waterholes .... great way to cool off. Only down side is they are usually teaming with fish who like biting and mosquito bitten legs... so guess who has been main target for fish... hmm.
So today we finished the first of my 2 Aussie tours. It has been an interesting 21 days. In some respects it has gone very quicky yet on the other hand I can't believe it has only been 21 days. We have done so much and stayed in so many different places. It has been a different experience to Africa and I guess the highlight was Uluru (Ayres Rock), Devils Marbles and swimming in the crystal clear natural spring waters of Litchfield today. On Monday I fly to Cairns for the start of the next tour. Cairns to Sydney.... It's all go!!!!

Rose Hi Anne, You seem to be enjoying it all again. You seemed very down when you first arrived from Africa. Really overcast here and I have been on the web all morning trying to book Take That tickets with no success so far. I always seem to get bitten a lot as well, best way to stop them itching is saliva though. Suggested to Kim on Monday that she set up a blog like this for when she goes to San Francisco next month. She is hoping to go on the 20th I think but the furniture etc goes before then. Continue to have fun and add to your memory bank for when you are old and decrepit like me!!!! Rose x
jen Great to hear your news and sounds like the wildlife are keeping you entertained in a different way! I am excited today as I got tickets for Take That - sorry Rose hope you got yours!! Down note is i a skint skint skint and need to find a job soon. Defo the worst bit about coming back!! I hate looking for a job it truely sucks!! Enjoy Cairns - i believe there are lots of tropical forests with lovely bugs there to keep you company:-)
sarah Hey great to see you have updated your blog was beginning to get withdrawal symptons. Sound like this part has not been so fun with the toads and weather but then knowing you, your cope with whatever!! Cant believe you moving on again seems to be flying by now. All ok same old things going on nothing changes. Will try and save some pennies and if I can get enough will endeavour to get out to see you so we can party!!! Take care and be good xx
Jill Hi!Great to hear you enjoyed The Top End. Brought back memories of our visiit there a few years ago. Any encounters with feral pigs and crocs? Can recommend Skyrail when you are in Cairns. We leave for NZ this week. Continue to enjoy your trip.Jill and Hugh Heard about the feral pigs but didn't encounter any. Saw a few big cockroaches though. Unfortunately I only have a day in Cairns before starting the next tour and spending that white water rafting. Hope your journey is good to NZ. Take care xx
