Ayres Rock ...done!!
Uluru, as it is now known (has been for last 25 years apparentlty), played our host to last nights sunset and this mornings sunrise. Celebrated the sunset with a bit of bubbly and about 3000 other tourists... bit of a bun fight to get a decent picture but still impressive. This morning we were up by 4.30 to get back in time for sun rise (no bubbly) . Same crowd there as last night but again still quite impressive. (just glad didn't have to climb it...still remember Dune 45!). Then we did the 6.5k walk around the base of the rock all done and finished by 10am. Last night we slept in swagbags under the stars which were very impressive. I awoke at 4am (got alarm problems again) and saw a shooting star, not a bad way to start a new day. We are now at a campsite by Kings Canyon. Tomorrow we have another early start to do another 6.5k hike the start of which is called Heart Attack Hill ... sounds fun. Big risk of falling down cliff too apparently. Most days we have done at least one really good hike over interesting terrain, usually leading to a magnificient look out point. Still lots of driving but definitely getting more interesting. Tomorrow we will be in Alice Springs and staying there for 2 nights as this tour leg end and another one starts. Hope everyone is ok. Not been able to be in touch much lately because been in remote parts. My phone still not available but should be in the next day or two.
Keep in touch. I love hearing from you.
Take care

Yvonne Hi Anne, what a beautiful picture you paint. You are getting pretty descriptive with your blogs and I think - ahh yes looking into my tea leaves - a future in writing! Enjoyed the many tagged photos of you in Africa - they look brilliant and the girls looked a great bunch. Hope you have meant some like minded folk in Oz. Bloody hell it is getting colder over here - long legs now !!!! Well as long as can be for a shortie like me. It all sounds wonderful and really really wish I could be with you now as I sooooooo need a break! Take care Love Yvonne xxxx
Ian Hihi, I think the land-down-under does alright for a - prisoner’s island! – from what I hear, you would appear to concur. Shame about all the tourists though.....dogh! Winter has decided to turn up here in Blighty, proper cold first thing this morning complete with frost and biting Nor-Easterly wind. I went grayling fishing on the Test last week and the river was definitely in winter condition. Digging through my draws now to find woolly base-layers. Swag-bags sound fun. Enjoy, don’t pay any head to anyone who tells you that Vegemite is anything as good as Mimite – it’s just not. Amelia lost tooth # 2 last night.....that’s cost the tooth fairy! All well here and in East Sussex. Take care, have fun. Best x
Gilly Yet again I'm inspired by your travels, I must go to Uluru next time we go to Oz. Nick tells me that last time he was in Alice it was 50degs C, so slap on the sun screen while we shiver back in Liss. Looking forward to the next installment. All the best Gilly
Lyz Anne, Sounds like things are starting to come together for you in Oz - see I told you that you'd love the Outback more than the cities!! I hope it continues to get better - you'll have to come back to Melb when I move home so I can show you how awesome it is!!! Love reading your blog and wishing I was still travelling (look at our Africa pics nearly every day!!!) Miss you stacks and make sure you keep having the time of your life! Lyz xx Yes your were right about Oz, it is getting better. We stayed in Melbourne for one night and it would've been good to have had more time there. It looks like a really cool place. Walked along the sea front for yet another sunset, it had a really nice feel about it. Your Africa pics are sooo good. I have been tagging away with them. Can't get enough of looking at Afica pics. Still miss it and everyone loads. xx
SARAH Anne Sounds like your beginning to rough it again, just how you like it!!. Not sure how you managing all these early starts but good for you making sure every minute counts.
