Alison's Travels
Well friends, I have conquered the city! Okay, that may be an over exaggeration since I do not speak the language and have not even been downtown. But, I am living in Cecilia\'s apartment now. I moved all of my luggage over there on Wednesday night and had the chance to unpack, so goodbye to wrinkled clothes piled at the bottom of my suitcase! Adriana took me to the supermarket and I rode the bus to school this morning. One word I have had to learn is setenta cinco centavos- which is seventy five cents, the price of a bus ride to and from school. The flat is only about 20 block down a main road from the school and takes about 20-25 minutes. I flipped on the TV last night and found two stations that have shows in english, but with spanish subtitles! I can watch Everybody Loves Raymond, CSI, My Wife and Kids, ER, and Grey\'s Anatomy. When listening to the radio, some statiosn will alternate between spanish and english songs, most of which are popular in the USA now.
One silly thing I can not get used to is the keys and locks here. The keys are different and you have to turn them a certain way, but it takes me several attempts. By the end of my trip, I am sure it will be automatic to me. Yesterday, I went to the bank for pesos. I exhanged $60 for $181 pesos- three times as much. The temperature here has been about 20 degrees celcius. Can anyone figure out how much that is in farenheit?
Friday is a half day for students and a teacher inservice in the afternoon. Then, no school on Monday for Labor Day holiday! I am constantly looking at my watch throughout the day wondering what my class is doing back home. I know that today you will have all your specials classes, then tomorrow will be Devin\'s birthday! So, Happy Birthday Devin!
My year one students have finished up in the computer lab so its back to class for me. My apologies for any typos- I didnt have time to edit and revise since I am in a hurry.
Miss everyone loads!
