Another day in the city that never sleeps... except now with cloudy weather.
We had breakfast at the other place just around the corner (there were 3, and we had 3 mornings so we played it fair). Before getting on the subway and heading towards Thomas Paine Park to visit the statue of Abraham de Peyster (probably a relative way back according to my fathers books). After having taken the obligatory picture with said relative (who wouldn't?) we headed off to the nearby Brooklyn bridge to traverse it which is definitely worth the effort. From the Brooklyn side we took the subway back to Manhatten to explore the Wall Street district.
However, by now the cloudy sky had started to part with some rain drops and we were forced to look for some cover. At the time we were in Battery park and a tour in a boat on the open water started looking much less attractive so we decided that after having seen the WTC memorial (quite impressive) we were going to have lunch and spend the rest of the day shopping and out of the rain. That still left us with the decision what to do for the evening/night or where to lunch. Standing outside a shop for some wifi (of which there is a surprising lack in NY) we found we were only a few blocks away from the discounted ticket office for broadway, where we managed to score some decent tickets to "Finding Neverland", and where we managed to score lunch in a very hip make-your-own-salad-bar.
Now when I say we went shopping, I really meant we went to one shop. Namely Victoria's Secret where we spent the rest of the day... that is the rest of the day before we realised we still needed to eat and make it to the show on time, so not really all that long after all. In VS we checked out all the places along our 10 minute walk to the hotel which were reported to have decent food and found a take-out pizza place with excellent reviews (completely justified). We snacked on our pizza slices in the hotel room recovering from all the walking which resulted us in barely making it to the show in Times Square.
Now in hindsight the early-ish start time and all the children in the audience should've been a give away, but it still took us halfway through the first act to realise that "Finding Neverland" was more or less targetted at a younger audience. Not that it mattered too much, the show was still good, there were plenty of jokes only adults would understand and let's be honest, Q and I are definitely still children at heart!
Having finished the show we walked around Times Square some more, taking in the energy and the lights before heading back to our hotel, exhausted.
