Our resting spot last night ( car park in the back of a pub) wasn’t great even though the reviews talked it up. However it was well located so before nine am we had done a few geothermal side trips, one where we could have a swim in a hot wild waterfall and while it was magical a brown scum in parts put me off plus it wasn’t that warm outside. So we looked and what few other tourists who must have read the same book also did the same. However on reflection when would we ever have an opportunity to wild swim in a hot waterfall just as nature had made it!
I really didn’t think that steam would be issuing from all over the landscape but we also went on to do a paid attraction with a lovely Māori guide, largest geysers one called the Prince of Wales, kiwi breeding programme ( saw two kiwi) and replica village. Tonight we are doing the whole cultural experience following in the footsteps of Owain & Cerys who did the same on their honeymoon, plus thanks to the same who are treating A for his birthday.
Being low on battery for phones we picked a family run campsite just outside the town and were given prime lake side spot, so one lovely long shower later and a sit by the lake in slightly warmer temps than of late we are getting excited for our night out!

Mary Edwards Yep. Same as us. We did the prince of Wales feathers instead.
