A comfortable stay in a cafe with pitches last night, where a wood burner and a cooked meal helped to distract us from the lashings of rain and high winds. Temperatures have dropped dramatically and have certainly worn all my warm clothing and in some cases all at once !
We moved north again but this weather is all over nz for the moment. A lovely drive crossing and recrossing the Buller river. We wished we had maintained a note of all the river and creek crossings thus far , into the several hundreds easily.
We saw more trucks on our journey today, guessing highway 1 may have closed. Have still failed to get any significant reception on our radio so weather and news is via internet when we get it.
Tonight we are west of Nelson where we walked around for a bit, close to Able Tasman National Parc, we would have chosen to stay more in the Park but felt the weather should lead us to be closer to Picton for the Thursday ferry crossing. It is probably the best campsite so far, small, beach access and nice spacious pitches, spotless bathrooms and cosy common room with wifi. However windy, cold (8 degrees or less)......and we are worrying about our hitch hikers of previous blog!
Big day today ,clean sheets and towels!
