We had a very busy day at the school - we made some role playing - one being a young trainee with a problem (alcohol addiction, gang member, economic problem because of parents' divorce and finally youth pregnancy) and the other one being the teacher. It was quite fun and all master trainers did a very good job. Mr. Kinley wasn't participating today - he had gone back to Thimphu because his father has fallen seriously ill. So I only have 11 participants now.
On our way home we stopped at another "General Store" to buy a few things like juice and chewing gum. Aksel also bought some biscuits - it is very limited what we can buy here - I wanted some almonds but we can't buy that anywhere in this village.
Wednesday morning the master trainers were very quiet and I asked them if they had partied all night. They told me that Kinley's father had died the previous night. Kinley just made it home to see him before he passed. They felt very sorry for Kinley and they cancelled the bonfire they had planned for Friday night to show their respect.
The death of Kinley's father made me reflect on what they do to the dead people here in Bhutan. I have never seen a churchyard so they probably don't bury people the way we do. Going home late in the afternoon I asked the driver from the school what they do when people die. He told us that they cremate them and spread the ashes in the rivers. Maybe they will take the small bone from the forehead, crush it and mix it with clay and put it in a holy place.
We came back to the hotel very late today because all the plumbing trainees, all of Aksel's class, the principle, and Aksel went into the forest at 2 pm to dig up some water pipes. The water supply to the school has been decreasing during the last weeks and now they didn't get water enough so that the trainees, who live here, could wash their clothes. They came back at 6 pm, dirty but happy :-) They had found the blockage and removed it! The problem is that they don't use filters here so all the small gravel and dirt from the river go into the pipe and create a blockage at some point. Anyway, now they have water again at the school. Aksel gave his camera to his class so they could take some pictures and they ended up taking 295 pictures in the forest in 4 hours! Amazing :-)
