Sunday was a day off and I took advantage of this and spent almost all day describing an education for counselors. Carsten wanted me to send this to him before May 23.rd. I also revised the program for next week for the master trainers.
Aksel went down the gravel road from the hotel to the small village where there an archery competition took place all day. Archery is the national sport here just like soccer or handball is in Denmark. The teachers from 2 schools were competing this Sunday. They started early at 8 am and continued all day till 7 pm when it got too dark to see the goal. He came back and explained to me that it looked rather dangerous. Each team was standing in one end of the field shooting their arrows towards the goal placed in the other end. The distance was about 150 meters (500 feet). People were standing just 3 meters (10 feet)from the goal and when somebody missed the goal the opposite team would rush into the field, do a kind of dance and mock the archer who missed. If somebody unintentionally sent an arrow at the wrong moment people might get hurt. Aksel said that it would probably become even more dangerous during the day because there were a lot of Druk 11000 lined up around the field!
When we went to the main building for dinner around 7 pm we could still hear them singing and mocking each other as part of the game.
Aksel wanted a Druk 11000 for his dinner but I think they sold all their beers to the participants of the competition because they didn't have any left at the hotel. Instead he got a Red Panda, which is a local beer produced in Bumthang. I think that was ok also ;-)
Monday morning when I started teaching again (last week of the module) the projector was very strange and the screen was all red. The master trainers tried to fix the problem but concluded that it was my computer and not the projector!
After half an hour it turned out that they were right…….. My computer went on a strike and gives me a black screen now every time I try to start it :-( I am very happy now that I brought my own little Netbook as well as the laptop! At least I can use that one now for teaching! I cross my finger that Lena and co. will be able to get my files out of the hard drive or maybe even repair the laptop!
At the course we repeated all the topics we have gone through so far - writing down the important points they learned and how they might apply these. The master trainers enjoyed this. By the way they love "Thought cards" and "Problem based learning" :-)
