Oh man I feel rough! We were supposed to get up early and go to see some sights with Celine, a girl we met last night but we were to tired.
We slept until 2.30 instead! When we finally slept enough we met Åsa and went for some noodle soup and a food stall around the corner from our street! Had spring rolls as well, they were supposed to be vegetarian but had meat in. I think it was crab.
After this, Åsa left and we walked to go and see St Josephs Cathedral! It was beautiful! Huge as well! There was a wall going all the way around it! Like a prison! Started to walk around it but it was a bit like 'da hood' and I like my possessions so decided against it!
We then walked all the way to Hoan Kiem Lake which is also in the old quarter! Michael kept calling it a pond, I think he underestimated how huge it really was! Set off walked around the lake.
There is supposed to be giant turtles that live in the lake but the latest sighting was 2006, so I think today is the day I will see one! ;)
Asian all do exercises, aerobic classes or outside gym near the water, saw this in Phnom Penh and Vientiane as well! It's cute.
At one side of the lake there was a 'Vinaphone' shop, which is the sim card I got, it ran out of credit so I bought a top up card but don't know how to make it go to 3G not calls or texts. I still don't know, he just did it, I asked him to show me but he just gave me a leaflet in Vietnamese! Useful.
At the North side of the lake is a temple and the South side in the middle tiny Thap Rua (tortoise tower). It is often used as a embalm of Hanoi.
We then carried on around the lake, it was so hot and there was so many people people around! We got to the bridge and paid 20000 dong each (£0.60) to go go onto the bridge and see the Ngoc Son Temple at the other side which was in the middle of the lake.
Ngoc Son Temple was founded in the 18th century and has an embalmed remains of a giant tortoise from the lake. Looked like plastic to me! The story is the tortoise stole the kings sword and hid it then gave it back to him in a time of need. Totally believable! Anyway it's turtles that live in the lake not tortoises?
Walked around the temple, got our money's worth then set off back home!
The roads here are unbelievable. Words cannot even describe. Da told me that they are worse then Cambodia and I should have believed him! There is so many mopeds! On a two lane road there is 10 mopeds in a row. All on wrong lanes and different directions.
The way described to us to cross the roads was that there is never a brake in traffic so there is no point waiting. You have to walk slowly all the way across, no sudden movements and don't look at what's coming towards you or you will freak out. Everyone will drive around you. This took some getting used to! I'll try and film it next time we do as its unbelievable.
Got back to the room and chilled for a bit till we met Åsa for tea! She had her iPhone stolen today! Everyone we meet has had something stolen but we havnt yet!
Everyone we meet also think that me and Michael are a couple! REALLY!! We constantly have to tell people! Even when we tell them they still don't believe us!
