Today was a very enriching day because we were invited to give an artist talk to Melanie's screenprinting class at the University of Colorado in Boulder. We arrived early and got a tour of the amazing facilities, over 4 floors of studio spaces, the ceramic studio had like 6 kilns! Every room we entered was enormous and brand new and seriously decked out. The studio art program has over 800 students, some doing their BFA, some not, and some MFA grad students. More pictures of the day to come. BUt in the meantime, I posted a photo of a sample of the class (not everyone stuck around by the time we got the photo in, some people are missing).
We presented to the group for about 45 minutes and talked about our bodies of work, exhibitions this year, plans for the future and about McMaster and our program. It was wonderful and the students had lots of questions and comments. Afterward they had prepared a special potluck spread of cookies, cookies, cookies (my personal fave), cheese, crackers, bread and jello. It was so delicious. We got a chance to talk with all the students and had a print-trade, so we traded work we brought with each of the students and that was an amazing experience too. The campus is so beautiful and right at the base of the mountains it almost seems imaginary.
We had a great dinner at Sweet Tomatoes, the biggest salad bar I've ever seen, we nearly burst. Melanie's antidote for our overindulgence of the buffet was to walk around T.J. Maxx. It was a good choice, I found a nice dress.
Em and I relaxed on the back porch at the house while Melanie and Clark went to a softball game. The rest of the evening was spent planning out our itinerary while I multitasked and worked on 5 books I began making on day 1. (pictures to follow) I have a little assembly line going.
I'm a bit rambly right now but so tired so I'm off to bed, tomorrow we go get our car...then more adventures.
