Anna's Adventures
On one of our dives, we'd finished and were sorting our kit on the boat, ready to go back to the dock, when Ruggie, our boat captain shouted "DOLPHINS!"
It was hilarious what happened next. As soon as people spotted the funny little fins arching through the water, everyone was clambering over each other to reach their masks, snorkels and fins. People in fins were falling all over the place. Then we jumped (or fell) into the water, and swam in the direction of the dolphins like our lives depended on it! I don't think I've ever swam that fast! I swallowed huge mouthfuls of sea water which left me coughing and spluttering. But the dolphins were too fast and they out swam us. Nevertheless, we got back to the boat and Ruggie chased after them. Everyone was hanging off the edges staring out at the dophins as we overtook them.
We jumped in again, this time just in front of them and the dolphins dodged past us. I was a bit disappointed. We'd only seen them for a second. But then they doubled back and started playing with us. They just turned and swam straight at us, weaving inbetween us playfully. They were jumping, flipping, swimming upsidedown. One nibbled at someones fin, and four of them together swam circles around me. They got so close to us! It was incredible! I could've reached out and touched one of them, but I was so awestruck by them, that I wasn't thinking straight! I just swam in circles with them. Watching them watching me. It was just one of those surreal moments that stays with you forever. Incredible.
