We have now been on Isla se Pasqua or Easter Island for 3 days. It is awesome! The island itself is extremely small, but the roads are very rugged. We spent the first two days looking for Moai, or the heads.
There are almost 900 of them on the island. Unfortunately, they were toppled over as a defiant act many years ago. There are many sites where they have been restored to their upright position. It is pretty surreal to see the statues.
We are staying in a great little cabana, owned by a french man named Christophe. He picked us up at the airport, brings us breakfast every morning, and is letting us use a car (for money of course...). The location is fantastic, as it is directly across from the ocean, and about a 2 minute drive from "downtown". There is only one town on the island.....
Makenna is doing well, but it has been disappointing that the weather isn't a tad warmer, so she can really enjoy the beach. The water is beautiful, but cold! She is also intrigued by the wild horses, cows and dogs that inhabit the place. Traffic jams are usually caused by the horses and cows standing in the middle of the road.
Highly recommend Easter Island! It is very peaceful. The only noise that we have had to deal with is the roosters! Quite different than Lima, where we heard nothing but traffic, car horns, sirens and alarm systems for 3 days!
