We have just finished our epic train journey - about 16 hours - to Wudang. Most of the journey was sleeping time and our group was split between two carriages. Half the group was in the soft sleepers, ie 2 bunks (4 people) and a door on the cabin. The other half were in hard sleepers, ie 3 tier bunks (6 people ) but no doors. The photos will demonstrate this better than my description.
Those of us who were in hard sleepers all got bottom bunks. We were all able to visit each other although it took a while to walk through from one carriage to the other. Soft were in carriage 10 and hard in number 5. Goodness knows how long the train actually was.
In the soft sleepers we attempted a world record of how many people you could get in one cabin. We managed 23 plus a panda! After that we did some Qigong and Tai Chi in the corridor. At this point the guard gave up trying to come up and down the corridor. The photos will show the space we had.
We arrived safely and currently are on the bus taking us to lunch.

Hazel Basford Thanks for this long description of the train. In October I am expecting hard sleepers but it sounds ok. Anyway I just love Chinese train journeys .....
