After a great nights sleep we had an early start with breakfast at 7am and on the coach for 7.30am! We didn't quite get off on time.
The morning was a trip to the Giant Buddha at Leshan. The journey took about 2.5 hours but there was loads to see on the way and Lily passed some of the time with Mandarin lessons. We passed by lots of farmland and plenty of trees. It was quite hazy at this time but the sun did its best to appear at various points.
Once we had arrived at the Giant Buddha we had free time to explore. The place was like a massive park with the river running alongside. The Buddha was carved out of the red rock face on the side of the river. The first view was one of his head. His eyebrows are over 5m long. There was an option to climb down steps to his feet but as time was limited not all of us did that.
Instead there was plenty of exploring to do and four of us even managed some Tai Chi under one of the many pavilions. There were plenty of beautiful quiet spots and loads of bird song - even spotted half a dozen species.
We have just finished lunch in the town. The usual delicious feast and we are now heading for an ancient village which is 1700 years old. So far today has been dry and humid. No sign of the threatened rain but I may live to regret saying that later!
It's now 5.10pm and we still haven't reached the ancient village. Having spent 10-15 minutes trying to get down a very narrow street in what appeared to be an ancient village we came across a bridge that we were too tall to go over so we had to turn round and try a different route. Currently we actually think we are lost but we have been in some interesting places and had the locals looking bemused or taking photos of us. We are booked in at a restaurant at the ancient village so we may be a bit late!
