7/5 - We left westport this morning to head to lake mahinapua and the poo pub!! we stopped just outside westport at this place called cape foulwind for a short walk along the coast to see the seal colonies. It was a nice little walk, and we saw loads of seals!!! I took a few pics which probly just look like rocks as they are the same colour as the seals :p but it was cool to see so many seals in the wild! our next stop was at punakaiki rocks, to see the "famous" pancake rocks! The pancake rocks are a series of rock stacks that resemble stacks of pancakes, sort of :p but it was a nice little place to stop for lunch and was interesting to see. We then headed from punakaiki to a town called greymouth, we stopped here to buy supplies for the poo party (fancy dress) and any food we might need for the next few days. The party's theme was bin bags, which meant we could dress as anything as long as the costume used bin bags! We arrived at the lake mahinapua hotel in late afternoon and unfortunately the weather wasn't great :( but we went on the small walk down to the lake and then to the beach. they were both nice, but would have been much nicer if it was sunny! The hotel isn't really a hotel, its a series of huts and sheds with beds in, that felt like they would be blown over by a slight breeze :p but, were very warm if you left the heater on. Then there was this little pub, where the party was to be held, and a much larger shed where we were fed. The hotel is owned by this legend named Les! who is about 86 or something but very famous amongst those on the kiwi bus! We had a really nice meal cooked for us all that night by Les and our driver, it was a bit of a bbq, and we got some amazing steaks and some venison stew! it was so tasty!! Then, after dinner we had to get into our costumes for the party! so, we all donned our bin bags and sprinted across to the pub in the pouring rain! some of the costumes were really good, ranging from cats and elves, to gimps and nuns, and a tub of marmite! I dressed as a twister board and ended up winning second place!
