23/4 - I left Taupo this morning to head to a place called River Valley. It was a couple of hours of driving through the greenest countryside ever! lots of sheep :p On the way we drove around the mountains on the tongoriro crossing and stopped for a quick walk down to this waterfall and pool that was apparently used in the lord of the rings films, (something to do with someone chasing a fish?) it was really nice! Then we drove on a bit more, and went past the hotel that was used in the shining, used to be a mental hospital apparently.Anyway, the lodge in river valley is in the middle of nowhere, miles from the nearest proper road in the middle of a valley (surprisingly!). The bus couldn't get to the actual lodge itself so we had to walk down a small hill to get to the bottom of this valley where the lodge was. It was a really nice place in beautiful surroundings, with the river flowing out in front of it and the big valley walls on either side, was Amazing!! There was a funny pully thing to get over the river, kind of like a flying fox stlye thing that you sit on and slide across to the other side. And there were some hammocks outside to which were amazing to lye in, so relaxing!! I had a nice roast dinner there (which i desperately needed!!) then we just sat around by the fire, really chilled! That night we basically all slept in the same room, it was kind of like a loft with small matress things on the floor next to each other, and some on a level above. The next morning I had to get up quite early to go white water rafting!
24/4 - It was an amzing trip, the rapids were so good, and we were on the water for quite long! some of it was actualy quite scary, especially after our guide told us a few ppl had drowned before! But, I made it to the end without falling out of the boat, and got to have a nice swim as ppl were jumping off rocks and stuff, was a lot of fun :) A lot of the rapids were level 5, which is apparently as bad as dangerous as they can get!! It was actually quite hard to do, cos we were constantly rowing, even through the rapids and sometimes had to dive across the boat to keep it afloat and stuff! We all made it back in one piece tho :) then in the afternoon we left to head for wellington! on the way we stopped in a place called bulls to get lunch. It was a little farming town, but it was quite cool cos they had signs up om all the shops and stuff with little bull related puns :) the police station was called "consta-bull", and the antique shop "collecta-bull" of "breaka-bull" I can't remember which, made me laugh anyway :p We arrived in Wellington quite late and I just did some grocery shopping (re-stock of pasta) then went to the bar. Wellington is meant to be a really good night out because it's a student city but all the bars were shutting at midnight tonite as it was Anzac day the next day (kind of like a remembrance day).
