3/5 - We left Nelson in the morning on what was probly the coldest day so far in NZ, and we headed to the Nelson lakes. We stopped at the lake for a picnic lunch, the lake was stunning, crystal blue lake reflecting the snow topped mountains surrounding it. whilst at the lake we went for a short walk around the nearby forest. unfortuantely it was a bit chilly to sit out too long by the lake so we headed off to westport after lunch. Westport is a place that our own bus driver referred to as "a bit of a dump", we arrived mid-afternoon on what was a saturday, and the place was a ghost town, no-one was out at all, and all the shops were shut!! so we all just watched a film that night chilled out by the fire.
4/5 - I was meant to be leaving westport today but had to stay longer to buy a replacement camera after mine stopped working back in Nelson :( unfortunately there were no shops open on sunday and no bus on tues so I had to stay in Westport until wednesday! So, I thought I would have a walk around, and I discovered that Westport was not as bad as the image the driver was painting us! although it was quiet, and not as spectacular as the other places we stop, it did have some very nice areas and had some really nice mountains as a nice backdrop. I walked all the way to the beach, which was actually quite nice, and practically desseerted so was a great place to just sit and read! And on the way back to the hostel I found that there was this speedway on, like banger racing type thing, which was kind of fun :) That night a new kiwi bus arrived, and the driver was putting on a bbq which was so good and so cheap!!
5/5 - so today was all about buying a new camera, which I did, buying the cheapest I could get!! then when I was done I made a bit of a picnic and went back down to the beach. It was really sunny today and quite warm so was nice to sit and each on the beach!
6/5 - By now I had pretty much exhausted everything westport has to offer :P But I did manage to find a domain to go for a walk in. It was just like a mini-forest, with the river running past the edge of it. It was a nice little walk and had a nice area in the middle for a picnic (again).
