Last night after a very eventfull formula 1 type taxi ride (driver going 180km in an 80) we flew into Penang dubbed the Pearl of Asia with AirAsia which are a really good low budget airline. after landing and getting straight onto the last bus (fortunatly) we got dropped off at the bus station where we were approacehed by some weird men who told us no taxi's where running and our hotel was a good 20 minute walk, one offered us and lift and one offered us through the short cuts back, i said noway mr li but on a serious note we actually declined politley as they all had some sort of body part missing, must of been back in narm andy said! But they were telling fibs and many darked backstreets later we flagged down a taxi which took us to the paramount hotel which when we asked him and he grunted and said ''ohh cheap cheap'' but at this point we couldnt care less as it was 1 in the morning. After walking in to an eeirie looking mansion a basil faulty type opened the door for us in a mood and handed our keys and air con remote etc. We got into our room and lets just say, the sleeping liners came out for the 1st time in the trip and by 1st impressions we couldnt wait to get the hell out of ''the pearl of asia''.
when morning reached, our 1st and last day in penang, we walked around georgetown for a while where we got the bus to the famous penang hill where on our travels past the biggest buddist temple we have seen so far, and on top of it was THE biggest Budda statue in the world, literally! driving up though the villages to reach the tram, our surrounds made us think how lucky we really are and how different other people live. We took the tram up to the top of penang hill (the highest point of penang) swear we felt like we were vertical most of the time, it was like going up on a rollercoaster exspecting to free fall back down. Once we reached the tip of the hill , otherwise known as Bukit Bendera at 830 meter high (2750 foot) after taking in the sceneray and the amazing penang bridge which connects Gelugor on the island of Penang and Seberang Prai on the mainland of Malaysia, ot felt like we was in san fransisco and refusing buggys we decided to walk the jungle trek on our own! So 33oC and 4km's kater i managed to persuade lucy to do the canopy bridge walk conecting the other side of the hill but i reacon shes a pshyic as it was closed so we checked out the 1st hotel and house on the hill , and then stummbled onto an army base camp where we got turned away not anywhere near it so decided to head back.
The highight of the day was seing all the different wildlife like the wild monkey family who had the smallest little baby we could off stayed and watched them for hours but after all the photos i think the dad had had enough after he came hurling towards us we unfortunatley had to retire! penang hill is defenatlly a must and this island even though i must say we will not ever be coming back ever as it was most definatly not worth the trip and not for us!!! And after a s*** meal on the evening we got ur heads down looking forward to getting the 1st ferry out of there to Langkawi, Hope that island has something to offer.
