Feeling slightly worse for wear, we headed to the sobering museum S-21 (Former school turned into detention camp) and the Killing Fields. Led around by a guide, we learnt lots about the Khmer Rouge genocide, not pleasant but absolutely neccessary to understand modern day Cambodia and it's people. It was particularly harrowing at some points, as there were still blood stains on the wall and roff of S-21 and the path trough the mass graves at the killing field led us over numerous visible bones, clothes and teeth of the victims.
Wanting to lift our spirits we headed to an amazing restaurant called 'Friends' for lunch. Run in the same vein as Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, it trains children who live on the street to run and cook in the restaurant. The meal was absolutely gorgeous, we stuffed ourselves silly on lots of tapas! We then went to visit the ChildSafe centre (a sort of Cambodian CEOP, where Bex got lots of info and hopefully a few contacts too!!)
Another necessary part of visting Phnom Penh is to explore the mzny temples and pagodas of the Royal Palace complex, where the king still resides. Highlights included the solid silver floor of the apltly named Silver Pagoda and the Emerald Buddha.
