Have now been working at our camp site for a couple of weeks; it is excellent...
Unfortunately the water levels have been dropping so we can no longer get up and down the rivers, too and from camp, in the klotoks and have had to cut a trail through the forest. Yesterday, when we were walking through it I did a rediculous fall whilst trying to keep up with the rather attractive local assistant!!! It was one of those where it takes about 10 paces before you actually hit the ground! Everyone found it quite amusing.
Working on the camp site is brilliant, I have spent most of my time on the roof, leaning precariously over the edge- nobody understands how I haven't fallen off yet considering how much I trip up when walking through the forest!!! I think a certain survival instinct kicks in! There are no safety precautions here... makes for muchos fun!
Most of the time is spent sawing.... things wonky, nailing nails in bengkok (bent), and tripping over planks of wood! I'm clearly a very useful person to have around the worksite!!!
The evenings tend to be spent chatting, playing cards, doing makeshift art classes, and eating whilst listening to the local assisstant play guitar! .... Hum, it is actually more fun than it sounds- I'm with a really nice, and hilarious group of people.
We had a 'wild' birthday party for one of the guys where everyone managed to muster up suprisingly good fancy dress outfits, and do silly forefeits all night i.e. make a cup of tea in your mouth, sing with dance action "I like big butts....", jump in the river etc. The more childish the better.
Doing things that aren't normally sociablly acceptable really is the name of the game....although some of these weren't deliberate, the worst things that have happened to me so far are...... (strange how they mainly seem to be nudity based)
.... full frontal flash to the whole worksite..... getting a leech right on my bikini line.....farting and burping openly in public (no real change there).... many exposures whilst trying to mandi in a sarong..... having my trousres fall down whilst swinging precariously from the roof, when trying to get down, and therefore had no hands free to pull them up...continuously tripping over things/ standing on dead wood so that it instantly breaks.... and so so so much more!
Oh the larks!
