Nat and I flew into Nice on the 26th of March after a 30 hour period of flying, transfers and more flying. It was such a long and tedious trip. But we made it looking our red-eyed and sleep deprived best.
The flight from Zurich to Nice was probably the highlight if the Journey. We flew out of Switzerland at around 8am and straight over the snow covered Swiss Alps..It was pretty incredible.
Once we got to Nice we got our car...the car they had put aside for us was not the small zippy car i thought i booked but a monster van. So i argued politely and we got ourselves a perfect little Renault Megane...It was awesome and i loved driving it. Despite driving on the wrong side of the road, on the wrong side of the car we had a really good scenic drive through Nice, thanks to Nat's awesome navigational skills!
When we got to Antibes Nat and I went to the dock to meet up with some of her Yachtie friends.. I met Trent (from Valentine) and Ange (from the central coast), a really lovely couple who were busy getting ready for their final charter on their current motor yacht.
We got to our apartment and got ready for dinner with Adam (Nat's cuz) and his flatmate/workmate Nick (a brit). They took us to a funky little underground restaurant and had some really good food...
On Thursday we got into the job hunting. We went around some of the crew agents and booked interveiws etc. Nat was already registered and experienced so she got put forward for lots of jobs. That afternoon she had an interveiw for the job she ended up taking. I on the other hand just recieved a lot of feedback and (constructive?) criticism about my CV and experience etc..
Friday was much of the same. Friday night Adam and Nick invited us to their place for dinner and had a cook off to impress!!! We then hit the town for much too much of the good french red's and a few too many jager shots!!!
Saturday was recovery...we were meant to go to Cannes for dinner and another big night out but we couldn't handle it and had a quiet one back at the flat.
I am loving the French lifestyle though...it it all about eating and drinking and eating and drinking some more, it is indulgence on a massive scale..and if it continues i'll be back home someday missing a liver and the size of a small house!!
On Sunday, Nat and i headed to St Tropez to indulge once again. She wanted to introduce me to a long french lunch (and celebrity i-spy). It was amazing food and the town itself was so cute and peaceful, a sleepy seaside town..the calm before the celebrity summer storm, so i am told.
On sunday night we were invited back to Trent and Ange's yacht for drinks after the guests left, we went back to our apartment to change.. and find some looser fitting clothes when we found that we had been locked out of our flat, we had asked to stay another night but our Key had not been reconfigured to allow us to do so. We were homeless in France.. We told Ange and they invited us so stay on the Yacht that night. When we arrived at the boat we were greeted with big, big hugs and a very bubbly bottle of Dom Perignon... Thus the life of a Yachtie!! After a little more fine wine i spent the night in the VIP suite of a luxury superyacht.
Monday, we awoke with slightly sore heads and had the adventure of moving into a different flat in the old town on Antibes (think The Rocks in Sydney but much older and many more narrow cobblestone roads) and also getting rid of the car. Adam organised this apartment for us, his Captins wife owns and leases it. It is a beautiful old one bedroom apartment, very shabby sheek and extremely girly (it even has a claw footed bathtub, insert squeals of delight here...). I dont know myself in this place, i feel like a stepford wife!! Which is probably why Nat and I decided to invite the boys over and cook for them...
At that brings this update to today. More of the job hunting and crew agents for me and relaxing for Nat who flys to Dubai tomorrow to meet her boat and start work. Her boat is a 50m motor yacht called Meridian and she will be spending the next 2 months in the red sea doing areas of the middle east before coming back to the Med for the Monaco Grand Prix.. I am so happy for her but a little envious of her adventures.
I'll update you all on my adventures again sometime soon.
Love
Amy xxx
