Hey ya'll!
Just a quick note before we leave Lima! We're heading off to Cuzco tomorrow (hopefully) dependant on the bus strikes that started today!
Had a big day yesterday, and a weird one at that!
Went into the central city since it was the National Anniversary of Lima or something like that... easier just to say Lima Day I reckon :D the Plaza de Armas was crazy busy and there were heaps of cops out... including... the RIOT POLICE! Yay! Exciting right - and no, I'm not being sarcastic.
We wandered for a bit, went for a coffee and to our local clothes store - Topitop. We've had to restrict our visits there because we are both spending far too much money on clothes! Went back to the Plaza to watch the changing of the guards outside of the Presidential Palace. Got front row seats (when I say seat, I mean on the curb... between the huge crowds and the riot police) - not by arriving early, but by pushing through everyone :D and watched a band play and some marching bla bla bla. This went on for about 20mins I suppose, we thought it was because of Lima Day, but no no, this happens EVERY freaken day! It was, painfully boring, and in the end we are still not sure if we even saw the guards change. Or if there were even guards there. It was strange.
Went for another wander to get food (the free breakfast at our (amazingly beautfiul mansion like) hostel is s***t - bread rolls and butter. mmm mmmm so fulfilling! NOT!) as we were fading away by now and saw a zombie. Seriously, jerky movements, crazy hair, dead looking. A zombie. I was just waiting for Thriller to come on and this crazy dead like person to start dancing. It was also strange. And I add this in to my blog solely for Sarah :)
Ummmm what else did we do that may possibly be of interest. I won't go into detail about the s***t lunch we had (it was gross)... We got a photo with the riot police which was amusing. We started heading towards the water park, which has fountains and stuff and they do a water and light show each night. On the way we got stopped by a slightly creepy (he didnt seem to creepy until 40 mins later...) man who HAD to tell us that we were THE MOST beautiful women he had ever seen. I was polite, but the conversation went on for far too long. Even as me and Cherie tried to edge away, and a policeman went past looking at us as if to ask if we were ok... Conversation pieces included my pink complexion, Cherie's green-blue-grey eyes, her smile which was like an explosion, my freckles, and a story about his uncle who tried a hallucinogenic (yeah, I can't spell) chilli. It was uber strange.
The water park was AWESOMEy awesome! We had delicious treats, and watched a water-light-extravaganza, which turned out to be pretty impressive! Saw some singing, and dancing and had a really fun night!
Yay!
Next stop, Cuzco!
eeee!
