Hi!
Yes, I know, I am still alive - just haven't bombarded you guys with a blog post in a while. I have been too lazy... Lol.
We are in Lima, Peru at the moment, but since the last blog have also been in Piura and then Trujillo.
Got to Piura after an insaneoso bus ride from Loja, Ecuador. Jesus Christ... I actually feared for my life at one point. The bus driver was more mental than ever and it was raining, dark + foggy... The bus broke down about 3 times, but when it was working he hooned it and I swear the wheels lifted off the ground at one point as he drifted around a corner... Eeeek.
Had to do the border cross at about 5am - which entails an exit stamp from the Ecuador office, then about 10 metres down the road, an entry stamp from the Peru office. The dude at the Peru office was alseep (don't know why as a bus would have passed through the check points an hour before ours.. so that was strange) but lucky for us an Ecuadorian chicky woke him up (by banging like crazy on the window and shouting out to him) hahah so we managed to get through. After 10 mins of him shuffling papers and trying to look awake. It was weird and I was not in the mood for his retardedness seeing as it was an ungodly hour of the night and we hasn't slept properly from trying to not fly out of our seats as we winded around the cliffs. At one point he said to me, in English, "How long are you staying for?" so I took that as a cue, thinking hey this guy speaks English, sweet, and reply "2 weeks" he then looks at me like I am mental, and Cherie has to answer in Spanish for me. What a moron. The asleep border man, not Cherie haha.
Anyway, arrived in Piura, in a deflated mood, to a s*** hole town. After a nap the town didn't seem so bad, but first impressions last so I was quite happy to see the back of that town!
Next stop, Trujillo. I love this place! It was great! Real cute colonial town that had some awesome Inka Ruins and was real close to a beach! We did a tour of the ruins which was very interesting and I took a massive amount of photos, but the sort that I find really interesting but I think if I made you guys look at them it would bore you s***tless. To celebrate Mum's birthday we went out for a nice dinner and decided to casino hope - there were about 8 casinos in one road. Crazy! Our ideas of a crazy times, money winning, exciting night were shot almost immediately once we realised that pokie machines aren't that exciting... Hmm... On the upside we got a free drink and Cherie made most of her money back.
Now we are in Lima! Have doe a lot of wandering and shopping - we're staying in Miraflores which a nice, if not a bit rich, area. Our hostel is crazy big and flash! Theres a real cool mall here that is built in to the cliff face called Larcomar (I think) which I couldn't get a proper photo of it. Leaving here on Tuesday I think for Cuzco which means ... Machu Pichu! Eeeee!
More photos are up too by the way: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=174989&id=754266194&l=d9f0ed3235
