Hey ya'll.
Now don't get excited, I know the photo for this blog is of Machu Picchu (well the net won't load it so I can't actually see it, but it is titled that...) but luck is not on our side (again) and mother nature would have it that bad weather has washed out the road to Machu Picchu. Awesome. So yes, refrain from the excitement of hearing news about seeing Machu, cause it ain't coming!! >:l
So. We're in Cusco, had another epic night of Bertie's drunkeness before we departed Lima... He came home (early I might add, and quietly ..... we didn't hear him arrive...) and snored the house down... Cherie and I both woke (and after our other epic-ly bad sleep at this hostel, didn't really give a toss about the others and thought we would stop this problem..) and Cherie went over to wake him and get him to roll over. Easier said than done.. She was jabbing him in the arm (hard I might add, I could see the oomph of the jab pass through Cherie and into him...) and when that failed to work, she took to grabbing him by the arm and yanking it up and down in the air. I'm suprised she didn't pull it out of his socket. Anyway, this semi worked and we managed to sleep... Yay.
Bus ride to Cusco was meant to be 21 hours (eeek.) Highlight would have to be the movies that were in English/or had English subtitles... we got to see such classics (not) as Georgia Rule, Taken, Dr. Dolittle 2 and Indiana Jones... Lowlight would have to be the windy route we took ( I was carsick majority of the night!) and the fact that the total trip ended up being 25 hours! TWENTY FREAKEN FIVE! Are you serious, like what is that about??? We were delayed at one point, very close to Cusco, for maybe an hour.. Turned out that the river had washed part of the road away.... When I say part, I mean both lanes at some points - a digger had to come and bulldoze part of the cliff out for the busses to go past!
Anyway, WE MADE IT! Yay! It was about minus 100 gazillion degrees here, and pissing with rain.. I swear, my toes were blue when we arrived back to the hostel. Funny thing is, you'd think being in a tourist town (and I mean full of tourists - those cliche hippy, "I'm so alternative" tourists) where it's pouring with rain, that taxis would be out to make a killing. Yeah, you'd think wrong. We spent the good part of half an hour in the rain waiting for a taxi!!!
So here we are, we've done market shopping. Yes, more market shopping. Oh how I love markets (no sarcasm here!!) And currently we are at our hostel sitting on the outside terrace in the 12 degree chill wearing my new (hippy tourist.... I hate to say it..) market gears! Woop woop! That includes, leg warmers and a woolley llama jumper, with, yes, you got it... llamas on it!!!! :D :D :D If I had of known we would be in leg warmer territory I would have brought the ones I took forever to knit last winter with me!! Damnit!
So yeah, since it turns out that Machu Picchu is a no go + it is cold here + it is raining with forecast of storms, we are gapping it outta here holmes! Next stop, Copacabana, Bolivia. And don't be fooled by the exotic name .... it's cold there too! So much for summer aye??
Just checked the weather forecast and it is high of 10 degrees and low of 0 in Copa... Holy freaken hell... Which means we might have to go straight to La Paz... We are having serious questions about life right now.... as every major tourist activity we have wanted to do has NOT f***EN HAPPENED (sorry for the swearing nana but I am mad a rattlesnake!) We are trying to be sunny and cheerful about the whole situation (thanks Leanie....) but it's times like this, we realise how much we haven't been able to do due to the freaken weather and maintenance... I won't go into detail, but the next trip we take we will go so far off the beaten track that there won't be any tourist attractions for us to not be able to do. I.e. somewhere like Palmerston North, or anywhere in NZ it seems after googling the most boring place on earth... if you do, you'll notice NZ features highly.
Enough of my b****ing, aside from the debbie downer moments of today, we are having a great time and I love llama jumper.
Love ya'll, here's hoping we find some sun, and don't die of frostbite or hypothermia :D yay!
xxxxxx
