Day 55: A californian earthquake
I was sad to leave Santa Monica today, to go to L.A, but I had already paid for my hostel, so I had to go. The journey back was very uneventful, and it was only when I was back at the hostel that the excitement happened. I got into my room and started sorting out my backpack when everything around me started shaking and rumbling and then I got hit on the head by some hair straighteners that were ontop of the lockers. And that was my first American earthquake. it was 5.8 on the scale and we all got evacuated from the building, as did everyone from the bulidings around us. No-one has been injured and not much damage was done - apart from a few broken windows. So that was a bit of excitement. They say there is possibly more to come.
Kind of got a bit of wa ke up call today. The girl that is in my room found out a couple of days ago that a friend of hers from back home died. She was 19 and died in her sleep - her heart stopped for no reason. Really makes you realise that life is too short. I have been worring and concentrating on the wrong things for a long time and it gets you nowhere. I never want any regrets, especially not on this trip, so that is why I shall go surfing again when I get to Hawaii. You only live once!
