So, Munich was pretty much ridiculous - and we loved it! Beth)s crazy friend Felix put us up (much to our surprise), in his old fraternity house. When we got to the house to drop our bags, we walked in to this gorgeously decorated large house, and Felix had previously mentioned that there were about 12 guys living here. Luckily, we soon realized that fraternity houses in Germany do not quite have the same stereotypes that they do in the states. The guys were very sweet and accommodating... complete gentlemen. The carried mattresses down three flights of stairs into their huge conference room, put sheets on the beds for us, brought us water to drink... It was nicer than some of the hotels we´ve seen so far!
After we got settled, Felix took us on a tour of the English Gardens, and we played fetch with a dog that sounded remarkably like Roger. Then we went to a Gay Pride Festival in a public square... that was so fun! From there, we walked a couple of blocks to the original Hofbrauhaus... which was definitely an experience. The four of us sat with two other couples (one from the states and one from Germany), and made fast friends over beers, pretzels, and weiners. Much to our dismay, we were too tired to take Felix up on his offer to go ˝oontz oontzing˝, which is what he affectionately refers techno dancing to.
Our second day in Munich was a little less crazy fun, though it definitely was educational. We spent the early afternoon touring the Dachau concentration camp. They've turned the whole area into an amazing museum with so much information about WWII and the impact it had on this particular area. It was really fascinating (which is clearly not the right word) to get a feel for the torture those people must have gone through living and dying there. Most of the area was even in its original state, we were able to see the sleeping and cleaning quarters, the bunker and jail cells, the crematorium, and gas chambers.
After Dachau, we needed a power nap so we headed back to the frat for that and some showers. Felix and a few of the guys took us out for some much needed Mexican food, and afterwards we went back to the house to socialize for a few hours. Amber was able to sweet talk one of the brothers into putting on a pair of traditional liederhosen, and we drank beer out of a glass boot. I think I can say with confidence none of us have had that experience before.
Thanks again for checking in on us!! We´re half way through now and cant believe it! Keep leaving us messages, we love reading them!
