Greetings from Amsterdam! We successfully made it through Paris (even with a few minor setbacks:) )
While in Paris, we saw so many beautiful things. After the long plane ride into the city, Beth's friend Stephanie met us in the airport and took us back to her apartment to drop our ridiculously heavy bags. We decided to see the Pantheon, which is an old Christian basilica turned to a crypt and temple. The tombs of Victor Hugo, Pierre and Marie Curie, and Jean Monnet are among the few people burried here. From here, we actually got to see a Saturday mass at Notre Dame, which was breath taking. Then wegrabbed some delicious crepes for lunch, and made our way to the Eiffel tower. Our timing could not have been more perfect. Right as we entered the park, a large crowd was beginning to form around the perimeter of the Eiffel Tower'sbase. As we joined the crowed to see what was going on, to our surprise an unclaimed suitcase under a park bench was blown up by French guards. This was pretty exciting... once all the commotion died down, we were able to make our way up to the top. Right as we got to the 3rd level of the tower, the sun set on Paris. It was the most beautiful view of the city. Before heading home for the night, we went across the street to the military school for a better view of the tower lit up at night.
Our second day in Paris was just as busy. We toured the Champs Elysees, and the Arc du Triumph. Climbing the steep stairs to the top was well worth the view... and Beth enjoyed taking the tunnel under the deathly busy intersection instead of darting across Parisian streets (which apparently has happened in the past). We then went to Sacre Coeur, also luckily during mass, and took some beautiful pictures. On our way back to Stephanie's, we toured MontMart, which has art galleries and sidewalk artists, cafe's, boutiques, and impossible cobblestone roads. Once safetly back at Stephanie's, she and her roomates treated us to a traditional Parisian dinner party. It was delicious and we made some great new friends.
