I met Guy and Shannene at Helena's for breakfast then they kindly took me to Durban Square. They showed me where the 3 year old goddess lives and Shannene told me that they way they select the next goddess as she's only a goddess up until she get's her period, but when they select a new goddess they get the villages to bring their daughters in to watch some guy cut the head off 108 animals and if she doesn't flinch at the sight of this happening then she's the one. Gruesome!
Shannene then told me that once she is selected she is taken away from her parents to live in the small wooden palace and is taught by the priests. She is also not allowed out in public, not allowed to walk and only allowed to see her family and the outside world very rarely. Also once she is no longer pure she is sent back to her family where she then has to learn how to walk properly, go back to school, get to know her family and start to lead a normal life.
After walking through the area we then went over and looked at some of the local markets. I ended up buying a few trinkets and Shannene and I played a Nepali checkers game with tigers and goats. The guy tried to get us to buy it but we both said no as there was defiantly no room in my backpack for it.
We then made our way back to Thamel and had a snack and a couple of beers before exchanging emails and saying goodbye. I Then went back to the hotel and started to pack my bags as I was flying out to Hong Kong that night.
There was also a girl, called Kerry from Perth, who was going to the airport at the same time so we shared a cab. We checked in together which caused all sorts of problems for the staff, how I don't know but we ended up having to wait a while for them to sort it out. Eventually they sorted it out and we were on our way through to the terminal.
The terminal security was pretty weird at the airport we got shuffled from one room to the next, patted down a couple of times then finally boarded the plane but not before one more patting down.
The flight was absolutely packed and it was not the nicest flight I've been on. It took 5 hours to get to Hong Kong and by the time we arrived it was 6am. I said goodbye to Kerry then caught the really flash bus to the YMCA. I checked in and went to the dorm. There was another girl sleeping in the room so I quietly jumped into bed fully clothed and went to sleep.
I woke up a few hours later and went to the agency to get my Chinese visa. I then just wondered around and got some dinner, then went back to the hotel and slept.
