Last night I said goodbye to Marcus, Rebekka and Matt as I'm flying out to Kathmandu this morning. I left the hotel via taxi at 7am but I got stuck in traffic for about 45mins and was thinking I wasn't going to make it in time, but thankfully I made it with plenty of time to spare.
After checking in, I went through immigration and customs then walked around the terminal and bought some perfume and a watch as my D & G watch broke. I then went a sat at the gate waiting to board the plane. I flew out of Bangkok at 10.35am and arrived into Kathmandu 3 hrs later.
After going through immigration I collected my bags and made my way to the front of the airport to find the hotel representative. Eventually finding him, they loaded up my bags and drove to the hotel. It was quite warm in Kathmandu and I was excited to be here but also a little nervous, as I was completely on my own. No tour groups, nothing, just me.
After checking in I went for a walk through the many alleyways in Thamel. It was a pretty crazy place as the streets were narrow and there were so many cars and people all trying to get around. As I was walking around I came across a funeral procession. There was quite a lot of people crying and carrying burning sage. The body was not in a coffin; it was just covered with a brightly covered blanket of some sort.
Afterwards I made my way back to the hotel and had a nap, then went out again for dinner at a place called the Third Eye. The food was really good. It was Indian food and you sat on the floor to eat. I then called it a night.
